Celebrating Life

Today we had the pleasure of helping my great grandfather celebrate his 103rd birthday! It is pretty hard to believe that he still mows his own lawn! Here is a photograph of River with his great great grandfather:
I realize that my posts here are already getting pretty short. :) I will do my best to update this thing as often as I can. Day's go by so fast. River is already starting to teeth! He has a constant case of wet-mouth and it is the cutest thing in the world. His favorite teether is his own hands of course, but I couldn't resist getting him this adorable teether. Its name is Sophie the Giraffe. It is hand made in the French alps with all natural rubber and non- toxic food grade paint. We can not wait for it to arrive! Land of Nod

Here are a few more pics from today:

Spring is here

Today was such a beautiful day! This lazy Saturday morning Matt made us an amazing breakfast of eggs, hash-browns and bacon. (I couldn't eat the eggs of course...) We lounged around the house for the morning then headed out to enjoy the sunshine. We went for blackberry gelato and coffee at Rao's Bakery (YUMMY!), browsed a few local plant nurseries, checked out a neat Indian food market, went grocery shopping for the week at Basic Foods (a mom and pop version of Whole Foods here) then finished the day doing some patio gardening. I've included some pictures from our day, and of our great finds!
  • River and Mommy (and the hat that I knit for him while I was pregnant)

  • River lookin' cool in his awesome car seat

  • Strawberries, Patio and Matt's Wild Cherry tomatoes, Sweet Basil, Rosemary (not pictured), Mexican Mint Marigold, and Orange oil (to take care of the ants in our Satsuma pot.) ;)

A New Season

With the birth of our first child, we have started this blog as a means of keeping family and friends (and strangers) updated on what we are doing, how our sweet son is growing, and chronicling all of our thoughts on natural living/parenting and all of our hair-brained endeavors. This photo was taken last weekend on River's first trip to the beach (Galveston.) We also drove down Port Bolivar for the first time since Ike to check out the aftermath.
